EU Ecolabel Helpdesk
BIO Intelligence Service was awarded the 4 Helpdesk management contract in 2004 and has been operating the Helpdesk for the European Ecolabel ever since.
This assignment involves the definition and implementation of a marketing and communication plan, and processing the requests for information coming from the various stakeholders in Europe.
Launched in 1992, this label encourages producers and distributors to reduce the environmental impacts of their goods and services. It also aims to provide consumers with more information about the environmental consequences of products and encourage them to make green choices. The European Ecolabel is the European Union’s official label for recognising high environmental and performance standards and it can be found on 26 categories of products and services.
Adopted in 2010 as regulation CE 66/2010, the goal is for the new European Ecolabel to be present on a total of 40 to 50 product categories by 2015. To date, nearly 22,000 products and services bear this label and the number is constantly increasing.
Each product or service must meet a strict set of specifications based on the life cycle assessment of the product, from its manufacture through to its end of life (raw materials, distribution, consumption and recycling). The specifications are developed by a panel of experts and the certification is awarded by an independent body.
Through its work for the Helpdesk, BIO plays its part in making the European Ecolabel a success: the label is now widely recognised by both consumers and producers throughout Europe.
