Sustainable production and consumption

Sustainable production and consumption

The unsustainable ways that we produce and consume goods results in an excessive and growing use of natural resources, that in turn has an impact on the climate, on biodiversity, on natural balances and more.

In this context, the challenge is to redirect our methods of production and consumption towards a more sustainable economy, one which limits environmental impacts whilst improving competitiveness, quality of life and the social conditions of production processes.

Altering our methods of production and consumption means addressing supply and demand simultaneously, both in order to place more sustainable products on the market and to encourage purchase of these products on a long term basis.

BIO offers a complete range of services to support companies and public decision-makers with this issue. Our expertise in drawing up responsible consumption and production strategies draws on our experience in areas including eco-design, life-cycle  assessment, environmental labelling, designing and evaluating public policy, etc.

The European Eco-design Directive portal

On the Ecodesign-info.eu website, BIO Intelligence Service provides the keys to understanding the Eco-design Directive.

Designed as a portal for stakeholders, it also tracks the progression of the studies related to the various product groups.

BIO is closely involved in the work of the European Commission in this area (with 18 EuP studies carried so far), and so can provide strategic information to members (registration is free but limited to the sectors concerned).
