BIO Intelligence Service is currently leading a framework contract to assist the European Commission in providing the necessary knowledge for the evaluation and development of policies in the area of sustainable management of resources.
The contract allows the Commission to ask BIO or any of its partners to carry out studies and related services concerning any life cycle aspect of natural resources (biomass, metals, minerals, fossil fuels, land use, water, etc.). This has already resulted in a broad range of studies covering issues such as reviewing current state, policies and strategies of natural resource use, waste reduction, recycling, resource efficiency, indicators and targets, etc.
The studies launched under the framework contract play an important role in supporting the European Commission’s work towards the flagship initiative ‘Resource Efficient Europe’ of its Europe 2020 strategy.
BIO performs these studies together with leading European experts and the partners in the framework contract: Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), Institute of Social Ecology (IFF), Arcadis Belgium, Umweltbundensamt (Austrian environmental agency), Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek (VITO), Ecologic – Institute for International and European Environmental Policy, AEA Technology, Global Views Sustainability Services (GVSS), and Ipsos.
